About The North Face: In 1966, two hiking enthusiasts founded a small mountaineering retail store in the heart of San Francisco's North Beach. The Company soon became known as The North Face, a retailer of high-performance climbing and backpacking equipment. (The name was selected because in the Northern Hemisphere, the north face of a mountain is generally the coldest, iciest and most formidable to climb.) In 1968, The North Face began designing and manufacturing its own brand of high-performance mountaineering apparel and equipment, and in the early 1980s, extreme skiwear was added to the product offering. By the end of the decade, The North Face became the only supplier in the United States to offer a comprehensive collection of high-performance outerwear, skiwear, sleeping bags, packs and tents.

"On my third pair - I am now on my third pair of Ultra 102's. I bought the first pair in October 2001 and am in love with this shoe. I work in a hospital and am on my feet all the time and these shoes offer great support. They hold up incredibly well in the washer and come out looking brand new. Whether tied snug for a walk with the dogs or loose for a day in the emergency room, they are always comfortable. I did get a defective pair online about 2 years ago, the sole separated after one month, North Face gladly accepted my return and quickly sent me a new pair. Hmmm...what great customer service."

"All the Right Combinations - This is a wonderful shoe, but what would you expect from The North Face and Zappo's buyers. It has just the ingredients I was looking for. I live in Colorado and can be hiking in the mountains five minutes from my house: I couldn't wait to try these out. They are exactly true to size and have the great freedom feeling of a roomy toebox but the XCR's don't slip and slide due to the unique lacing system. The North Face named them the XCR so someone at Zappo's hit the wrong key. The platform is sturdy and has a very well cushioned arch support. These should perform with the same aplomb on hard concrete city streets, too. There are no outlandish hooks or surface structures that grab your shoes when you cross your ankles either. They feel like I've had them for a year, yet they are right out of the box. The price shouldn't deter you from buying this finely manufactured and truly comfortable shoe. I'm not taking mine off!"

"Absolutely amazing - This shoe looks great and is comforatable . These shoes are great to wear as an everyday shoe but I also hiked in these shoes a whole weekend and I was thanklful I had these shoes on. They have excellent traction and also are made with gortex. I bought this pair and the blue ones too. I also have gone bike riding with these and have even used my treadmill with them. I work behind a computer all day and I even wear these to work for the nice look of these shoes. They make me feel athletic and sexy!!!!! My feet have never felt so comfortable and I have bought a whole lot of shoes. Thank you Zappos for selling these shoes I will be buying a another pair another color of these when I get paid. Some people might feel like these are a little pricey but let me assure you the comfort and quality of these shoes are absolutely amazing and priceless. I know you will love these shoes as much as I do."
